Chemical peels are a type of treatment to rejuvenate your skin. Whether the problem is dullness, wrinkles, acne, or pigmentation, there’s a peel to help. Some peels are more superficial and are done by your esthetician, and some are deeper and are done in a medspa or even under anesthesia. At The Wellspring, VI Peels are offered because they are effective peels that are suitable for all skin types.
VI Peels were created by a late doctor for his daughter, who is now the CEO of the company (another female- led business, yay!). She struggled with acne as a teen, and her dad’s goal was to create something safe and effective to clear her skin. Today, two of the formulations are safe for teens 13 years and up, so you have an option other than daily prescription medications for your teens.
The five formulas target early signs of aging, advanced signs of aging, acne, adult acne with hyperpigmentation, and hyperpigmentation. An office visit for a peel can be completed in as little as 30 minutes. One of the ingredients in the peel helps numb the skin, so any mild tingling experienced lasts only until that ingredient penetrates the surface, which typically takes less than a minute. The remainder of the peel is applied and you’re sent home with a week’s worth of skincare to use.
You’ll have a night and morning routine to follow. There is a helpful app to download for post peel reminders, and you'll also get an instruction card to follow. Plan to peel on the 3rd and 4th day of your peel, which may require some social downtime. Avoiding heat by avoiding hot showers and vigorous physical activity for the first 3-4 days is important in order to achieve best results. Remember, do not pick or pull at the peeling skin.
Peels can be done during the same visit as dermaplaning, Botox, or filler. Concerned with acne on your back or sun damage to your forearms? You can peel those too! Like many treatments, one peel will make an impact, but best results for tougher, more established problems are usually achieved through a series of peels. Care for your investment at home by using the right skincare products.
The BeautySpring by the Wellspring Acne Defense Kit is the best take home kit for acne. For pigmentation, discuss with your provider if the VI Derm Beauty Pigment Correcting System or Lytera 2.0 by SkinMedica is the right choice for you. For early signs of aging, the BeautySpring Beta Enzyme Cleanser & Purely Physical SPF, along with SkinMedica’s Retinol 0.5 are must haves. For advanced signs of aging, add SkinMedica’s TNS Advanced + Serum and Neck Correct Cream.
